We often talk to owners and CEOs about their need for a valuation to support decision-making about the sale of a business or introduction of fresh equity.
Fitness for purpose is paramount, and we often steer clients towards something that is called a pricing guide rather than a detailed ‘speaking’ valuation.
We have shared a de-identified example of a pricing guide based on recent assignments so you can see what a pricing guide looks like.
What is a pricing guide?
A Pricing Guide is an examination of the transaction landscape in businesses like yours combined with an analysis of the competitive position of your business along with its profitability and growth prospects. Unlike a tax or financial reporting valuation, a pricing guide is delivered in charts and critical commentary. Its sole purpose is to support strategic decision-making.
Importantly, a pricing guide seeks to answer the question: if we went to market today, what would a strategically-aligned purchaser likely pay for our business?
